So as my title suggests, I think I’ve turned into Little Miss Bali! Same overseas location within 5 months… That’s unheard of for me! Though I must say, Jetstar make it so affordable and with only just over 5 hours of flying time, it’s a winner.
This trip, I was lucky enough to be joined by my friend Mark, affectionately known as ‘Prickles’ who I met while exploring Berlin a couple years ago now. We spent 6 weeks together travelling through Scandinavia, the Baltics, Russia and Poland so I knew we could handle 6 days in beautiful Bali. While I had travelled here earlier this year in May 2016, this would be Prickles first time.
Umah Joglo Bali Villa
I organised us a stunning (and cheap!) private villa on AirBnb called Umah Joglo and we couldn’t have had a more relaxing stay. We started everyday off in heaven with a complimentary breakfast ~ a choice of mee goreng, nasi goreng or American style with fresh juice and fruit. Thank goodness for the strong air conditioning in our room as it was a scorcher! Although we did spend much of our time either by or in, the private pool. Hello sunburn!
Also at only $3-$4AUD taxi ride into the heart of Seminyak, it was perfectly located!
btw, how much do you love my Sophie Robertson Sarong? <3
Pura Tanah Lot
I had wished to go to Pura Tanah Lot on my last trip, but we ran out of time.
A striking temple dramatically perched on an offshore rock and shrouded in a mystical mythology. Thats right up my alley.
But, I must say it’s not exactly what I expected… While beautiful, at sunset it was swarming with people and it did not appear like all the photos I had been gazing at online. Possibly try sunrise? I found the sunset reflecting on the ocean and waves much more appealing. So still worth a trip!
Had the most amazing night here! Prickles dabbled in some online research and discovered La Favela for dinner and cocktails… well that didn’t go quite to plan. They were fully booked for dinner but we returned later and it had fully transformed into a bar full of fun! Danced all night, mojito’s in hand. Definitely worth checking out. I know I’ll be back!
Craving a dirty burger like we were? Well Boss Man is open till 4am. Perfect for those late night drunken snacks. But heck, dinner was just as good. You can’t look past this one! Get yourself an Original Gangsta burger, some truffle fries and call it a day…
Wanting authentic Indonesian cuisine and something a little more classy? Look no further than the stunning Bambu restaurant. Thank you Trip Advisor for this gem. Prickles and I aren’t ones for dessert but we had to here. Bambu is a pristine and soothing oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of the streets of Seminyak. The architectural design of the restaurant is stunning and the abundant water features, calming and relaxing. The staff are all attentive and kind. But most importantly, the menu proudly features the flavours of all the regions of Indonesia. While this is a high-end dining experience, the prices are incredibly reasonable.
A few extra mentions:
I also headed back to Mama San for a delicious lunch. Make sure you book ahead as I struggled to get in! Mama San includes all the great cuisines of the Asian region, Burmese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and local Indonesian hints. A few other honourable mentions goes to the delicious tacos at Sisterfields, the ribs at Corner House and 2 for 1 cocktails at TigerPalm. Hello Coconut Mojito’s (topped with coconut chips for snacking)!
I also hit up Cocoon Beach Club and La Laguna again and visited the Tegallalang rice terraces and coffee plantation in Ubud. Make sure you don’t pass up the opportunity to try the Kopi Luwak/Civet Cat coffee.
Cool Spa and Salon in my absolute favourite. I discovered it on my walk from Seminyak Square last time. Affordable and relaxing, there’s no where else I’d rather go.
If you find yourself getting overwhelmed with the Indonesian dollar, it’s actually really simple if you remember to move the decimal point 4 times. So $10000IDR is the equivalent of $1(.0000) AUD, $200000 is the equivalent of $20(.0000) AUD and so on!
Take someone fabulous (like my mate Prickles) to Bali and I don’t think it’s possible to have a bad time!
